rain (2005) for violin, viola, violoncello, and double bass

The inspiration for rain came from a landscape on the Olympic peninsula. Black clouds hung over the valley, filtering the light to a dark blue. A layer of glistening frost covered the soil and underneath the mist all was still. Despite the depressed appearance of this landscape, there was a potential for growth. It is from this potential that rain begins.
